On October 14, 2017, Cleveland Ballet will present its first performance as the newest resident company at Playhouse Square, joining existing resident companies Cleveland Play House, Cleveland State University Department of Theatre and Dance, DANCECleveland, Great Lakes Theater and Tri-C JazzFest. The company will perform Les Sylphides with music by Frederic Chopin.

“There is true appreciation and knowledge of dance in Northeast Ohio. In fact, dance is one of the foundations on which the Playhouse Square of today was built,” said Gina Vernaci, executive producer at Playhouse Square. “Cleveland deserves a great ballet company. With thoughtful leadership and Gladisa Guadalupe’s vision, Cleveland Ballet is en pointe to fill that role. We heartily welcome them to our family of resident companies.”

History of the Cleveland Ballet

In 2014, a group of dedicated volunteers and artists reconnected to build on the artistic legacy of the Cleveland San Jose Ballet and form Cleveland Ballet. Cleveland Ballet marked its return to the Cleveland arts scene with the artistically and financially successful October 2015 production, Past. Present. Future. This debut production was presented to a nearly sold-out audience and exemplified Cleveland Ballet’s collaborative spirit, and the community support demonstrates that a passion for professional ballet exists in Cleveland.

Led by Artistic Director Gladisa Guadalupe and newly joined by Ballet Master Cynthia Graham, Cleveland Ballet is thrilled to find a new home at Playhouse Square.
