With an average snowfall of around 50+ inches annually, Cleveland knows a thing or two about being a winter wonderland. But with that climate comes a great deal of preparation. Cleveland is equipped with more than 70 snow removal vehicles and thousands of pounds of rock salt.

Best Cleveland Winter Activities

So, it should come as no surprise that the city is typically open for business—even on its snowiest of days. On top of that, Cleveland derives great pride on its still being able to offer a bevy of wintertime outdoor activities.

However, there’s a swath of visitors out there who just don’t like the white stuff.  If that’s the case, let us introduce you to the delightful phenomenon known as indoor waterparks.

Paradise in the middle of a snow storm, anyone?

Primarily located in the Sandusky region (about 60 miles west of Cleveland), these bright, large facilities have a few things in common: flexible hotel accommodations, family-friendly dining options and, of course, an enclosed waterpark.

Trust us, these aren’t just your typical indoor pool.

Kalahari Indoor Waterpark Resort

Hands down the largest waterpark in the region, Kalahari combines an 884-room African-themed hotel with a 173,000-square-foot indoor waterpark (the largest in the U.S.), a 77,000-square-foot outdoor waterpark, an 115,000-square-foot safari outdoor adventure park, a 215,000-square-foot convention center, full-service spa, retails shops, indoor miniature golf, an indoor playground, the largest game arcade in Ohio and three on-site dining options. Huge? That’s an understatement.

Great Wolf Lodge

With a 33,000-square-foot indoor waterpark boasting attractions like tube slides, a water tree fort and several children’s water activity areas, Great Wolf Lodge is a family paradise. Amenities include 270+ themed suites, five dining options, an ice-scream themed spa for kids, arcade and nightly entertainment.

Castaway Bay

The fun of Cedar Point amusement park doesn’t stop at the end of October. Castaway Bay, the amusement park’s on-site indoor waterpark resort, includes 237 rooms ad a 38,000-square-foot, Caribbean-themed indoor waterpark complete with a wave pool, a five-story water activity structure, toddler areas, tube and body slides and more. The family-friendly resort also includes three restaurants, retail shops, a spa/salon and child activity center.
